Welcome to the Hasland Theatre Company
The Hasland Theatre company have been around since our first production in 1944 and we are based in our own 100 seat Theatre, The Playhouse on Storforth Lane in Hasland (Where Else?!). Our current production season runs from September to May each year and we perform 5 plays per season.
We are always looking for new talent to join the company either on the stage or helping behind the scenes, you can find more information in our section for New Members. Or, why not pop into the theatre on a Tuesday or Thursday evening and see what goes on behind the curtains.
Our Next Production...
The Government Inspector - January 2012
by Nikolai Gogol - ALL PERFORMANCES NOW SOLD OUT
Gogol wrote the Government Inspector in 1836, at a time when Tsar Nicholas I was in power, all performed art was censored and a large part of the Russianrural population were effectively slaves - bonded to landowners as serfs. Trouble was brewing.... Does Gogol choose to write a vicious condemnation of an authoritarian regime? Does he hack at the roots of one of Europes last feudal empires?
No...He put his considerable talents in the service of comedy. He produced this fantastic piece, full of twisted comic characters. Gogol's provincial town community is trundling along very nicely, thank you, its wheels oiled by petty bribes. The Governor's wife is doing her best to find a posh husband for theirdaughter and to re-create a little piece of St Petersburg high society in the sticks. Suddenly, a rumour flies around - the Tsar's inspector has arrived in town to check up on the local government. The local "mafia" is thrown into panic in a case of mistaken identity.
